GREEN RIVER PADDLING

Overview

The Green River is an infamous place for paddling with its clean water, epic rapids, gorgeous landscape, and a reliable dam release.  The Green River runs nearly 300 days a year and has sections ranging from Class I to Class VI and is broken up into three sections  – the upper, narrows, and lower.

Sections of the Green River

Upper: The Upper Green is a gorgeous 4 mile section of river that winds through the remote Green River Game Lands.  This section is mostly class I-II with two class III+ rapids, one being difficult to portage.  The put in is a the Upper Access point, right below the Tuxedo Hydro Station.  The Takeout is at the Narrows put in right up stream of Big Hungry. There is an uphill hike at the take out.

Narrows: The Narrows is an iconic class IV-V section of river and home to the infamous Green Race. Kayakers come from all over the world to paddle this section of river. It runs deep through the Green River Gorge and is surrounded by the remote wilderness of the Green River Game Lands. The put in is at Green River Access Parking Lot off Galimore Road and the take out is at Fish Top Access.

Lower: A class I-II section of river that is most accessible and an incredible place to learn to paddle.  The lower Green is great for kayaking, canoeing, and SUP. The Lower Green starts at Fish Top and ends at Big Rock, but there are a few other access points along the way. This is a great section for the whole family.
